Presenter: Amanda Case, Ph.D., Associate Professor in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa

Description: As the holiday season approaches, we'll all hopefully have more opportunities to spend time with friends and family. In an election year, however, some of those interactions can be challenging if discussions become politically charged. This webinar, which will be facilitated with a licensed psychologist, provides practical tools for maintaining your well-being, managing emotional triggers, and fostering meaningful, respectful dialogues. Learn how to stay calm, listen actively, and de-escalate potentially heated discussions while keeping your holiday spirit intact.

Learning Goals: 1) Understand techniques for managing stress and anxiety during politically charged discussions with family and friends. 2) Learn strategies for actively listening and fostering respectful, non-confrontational dialogue during emotionally tense moments. 3) Develop practical skills to de-escalate conversations and maintain positive relationships through emotionally intelligent communication.
