Sparking STEAM Interest: STEAM Learning with Electronics

Please register here. BTLC Credit: IS, STEAM

Presenter(s): Kay Ramey, Assistant Professor, Learning Sciences and Educational Psychology, and Darrell Currington, Makerspace Facilitator

Description: In this workshop, students will gain hands-on experience participating in and designing STEAM activities using electronics tools or kits. For the hands-on STEAM challenge, students will get to create a musical instrument using Makey Makeys and create codable circuits and lights using Arduinos. They will also learn about other electronic tools and kits available in schools for STEAM learning. They'll be provided with resources and ideas for activities they might facilitate in their classrooms, and they'll have an opportunity to brainstorm their own STEAM activity using electronics tools or kits.

Learning Goals: 1) To become familiar with a variety of makerspace tools, technologies, and materials. 2) To develop the necessary skills and mindsets for facilitating integrated STEAM learning experiences for students. 3) To learn how to design and facilitate interest-driven, authentic, inclusive, and culturally sustaining STEAM activities.
