The Culture & Climate Committee works to identify actions our work community can take to strengthen our culture. Our survey in June 2014 showed faculty and staff want more social interaction with colleagues and students, across the College.

About the Committee

We began hosting open houses for the College in August 2014. These open houses, held just before faculty & staff meetings in August, January, and May, showcase committees, collaboration, and community building opportunities.

Through our recommendations, the College as worked to provide more opportunities for people to connect during lunch. Tuesdays and Thursdays in summer and fall of 2015 were food truck days, which brought many people out and had them lunching outside and in new venues. A further effort towards this goal is the construction of a café outside of Jones Commons, to open in Spring 2016.

As a member of the College of Education, we value your input and would love to hear from you. We would welcome you to talk to any of the committee members to share what you have seen adding positively to the culture and climate of your work unit or to share concerns you may have.

Creation of the Committee

The idea of the Culture & Climate Committee came from the recommendations of the College's 2012 Working at Iowa Advisory Group. It was formed as part of the 2013-2018 Strategic Plan Implementation, and worked as a "brush stroke" across the four pillars of the Strategic Plan. Since the implementation work came to an end, the committee has become an advisory committee to the dean.
