The Ph.D. program prepares candidates to be:

  • College instructors in the social sciences and pedagogy


Doctoral students in the Social Studies Education program take courses in history, the social sciences, and global education. Required coursework includes advanced seminars on the history and philosophical foundations of social studies education and research approaches to social studies and global education. Students also participate in the research and college teaching activities of the social studies education program.
