The Ph.D. in Foreign Language and ESL Education provides students with the necessary content-area knowledge and research skills to prepare them to be:

  • Researchers in foreign language and ESL education
  • Foreign language and ESL education program administrators
  • Leaders in academia, government, or the private sector where in-depth knowledge of language educational issues is required

The Foreign Language and ESL Education Ph.D. program is designed for individuals with demonstrated success in language teaching. It combines the expertise of program faculty with resources from many areas of the college and university: teacher education, second language teaching and learning, assessment, educational linguistics, technology integration in education, and second language literacy. Students are encouraged to choose a related area within education to enhance their knowledge of both national and international educational systems.
