Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What if I am not currently a teacher in Iowa?
A. If you are not currently employed as an educator, you may request letters from previous administrators who know your promise as a leader.  Please explain your specific situation in your Statement of Purpose.

Q. What if I have not taught or been a principal for three years?
A. If you are applying to a licensure program without having completed three years of teaching/administrative in-school experience, please contact the Program Coordinator directly to explain your circumstances. Completion of this is a requirement from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners by the end of your degree program.

Q. What is the online class like?
A. The online courses meet synchronously in the evenings and weekends, which means everyone logs on at the same time for class. We use the Zoom video conferencing system. All you need is a computer with internet, a webcam, and a headset with a microphone.

Q. Is the GRE required? Is there a minimum GRE score or GPA for admission?
A. The GRE is required for admission. The admissions panel takes into account all of your materials in context. We are interested in your promise as a school leader, so your own performance in schools is important, but we do not set cut scores for admission.
